Following on from my mega lists of fantasy and science fiction books with animal companions, this category was big enough to deserve a list of its own: DRAGON COMPANIONS. We're talking dragon riders, dragon trainers, dragon familiars, dragon protectors, and even dragons with human companions.
This list is a live list, so as I find more YA and adult books featuring dragon companions, I'll keep adding to it. Feel free to send through your recommendations too! But remember, your recommendations must have a dragon companion (if I listed all books that simply featured dragons, I'd break my blog—as my animal companion list nearly did 😅).
1. The Vlad Taltos Series by Steven Burst

The early riftwar books have a small dragon like creature that is first attached to the MCs mentor and later the MCs son. It's not actually a dragon though as they do actually have those in the series and they're much bigger. Blanking on the creatures name though and it's bugging me. (Fantus).
